Mardi Himal
Short Pokhara-to-Pokhara ridge trek to a 4,500 m Annapurna viewpoint. 4–10 days. ACAP only — no flight or restricted permit needed.
Overview
The Mardi Himal trek is a short, spectacular ridge walk that climbs to a high camp at 4,500 m directly beneath the fishtail summit of Machapuchare (6,993 m). Only opened as a marked route relatively recently, it stays far quieter than the nearby Annapurna Base Camp trail while delivering some of the most intimate mountain views in the region.
Starting close to Pokhara, the trail rises through moss-draped rhododendron forest onto an open high ridge with uninterrupted views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machapuchare. The compact 4–5 day length makes it perfect for trekkers short on time who still want a genuine high-Himalayan experience.
It is a teahouse trek, though lodges higher on the ridge are simpler and fewer, so flexibility helps. Spring and autumn are best; clear mornings reward the early risers at High Camp and Viewpoint.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the Mardi Himal trek cost in 2026?
A guided Mardi Himal trek typically costs USD 350–600 per person — one of the best-value treks in Nepal thanks to its short length and easy access from Pokhara. Price includes guide, porter, lodging, trail meals and the ACAP permit.
How difficult is the Mardi Himal trek?
It is graded Moderate. The route is shorter than ABC but gains altitude quickly to 4,500 m, and the upper ridge can be steep and exposed in poor weather. Decent fitness is enough; no technical skills are needed.
How many days is the Mardi Himal trek?
The classic route is 4–5 days from Pokhara, making it one of the shortest high-viewpoint treks in Nepal. Add a day for a relaxed pace or extra acclimatisation.
What permits do I need for Mardi Himal?
You need the ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit) and a licensed guide. Lekaly arranges the permit for your nationality.
When is the best season for Mardi Himal?
October–November and March–April. Spring adds rhododendron colour; autumn brings the sharpest views. Avoid the monsoon, when the ridge is often cloud-covered.
Is Mardi Himal good for beginners?
Yes, for reasonably fit beginners. It is short and accessible, but the quick altitude gain to 4,500 m means you should still pace yourself and watch for altitude symptoms.
How does Mardi Himal compare to ABC?
Mardi is shorter, quieter and higher at its viewpoint ridge, but ABC takes you into the full glacial sanctuary. Mardi suits those short on time; ABC suits those wanting the classic base-camp experience.
Do I need a guide for Mardi Himal?
Yes — a licensed guide is required in the Annapurna Conservation Area, and the upper ridge benefits from local knowledge in changeable weather.
